Hadn't heard back from Hickox at the City. So I called him. Now I kinda wished I hadn't.
He's still waiting for documents from the sprinkler designer; he's talked with him and it sounds like "at least" a one inch is necessary. Hickox has been waiting to make sure about the "at least" part... wants to make sure that an inch will be enough.
But the contractor bid came back: $6750, plus whatever City fees are incurred... probably less than $7500. Well, thank freaking god. What the hell happened to the between 5 and 6 grand?
He's offered to put it out to bid with two other contractors (but he's not confident, as the ones he used are usually the lowest); I take him up on the offer because, as I put it to him, "that's quite a chunk of change." He agrees.
He says bids will probably take a week; in that time, the docs from the designer should be back, and we should have a firm cost.
But I'm already depressed.
