Check

Dana just called. With the finishing of electrical / plumbing, they need an $18K check. When I said I could get that at the end of the week, she reminded us that this weekend is another Holy Day, so we'll deliver the check next Monday at the site at 4:30. Looking at the payment schedule, there's another 18K due at the end of the window install (another next week?)... then 70K at the stucco (that can't be far down the pike).

-------------------------

Not far at all, as it turns out. Dana just called back. She had talked to Fred. By next week, they should be starting the stucco lathe, so we'll need that check, too: 88K next week... ouch... that'll be the biggest check of the bunch.

-------------------------

Another call: Hickox from the City. Two bids: the first $6746, the second $6261. But this second one has a caveat: they want to try to do a non-trenching pull of the pipe. If this works, the cost will be only $3600. I ask if the worse-case senario is $6261. He says yes. So I say let's go with that one, and I'll bring by the letter and the check (oh, yeah, the City wants the check up front) before I pick up Kyle.

A few minutes: Hickox calls back. There may be a catch now that he's looked at the bid... the cover letter says 6261, the breakdown says 9848... so that makes us believe that if the non-trench pull doesn't work, then it jumps up another 6200. Uh, that's less than optimal. Hickox wants me to wait to write out the check... we'll fill it in when I get there. Joy

-------------------------

Just before I leave to drop off the letter: another call, Hickox again. The guy he needs to talk with at the contractor is out for the day... one day delay.
