Waiting

OK, it's 10:42 on Monday morning, and I'm sitting waiting for Jose from Coastline to come for our "salvage" walkthrough, where I'll outline for him everything we wish to save (windows, sink, faucet, etc... add to that list the big blue whale--er, couch--that lies tits-up in the living room.

He's nearly two hours late.

It's shaping up to be another Red Letter Day, as I scribble these notes into this notebook.

Lisa and I went to the condo manager's office just before we left for Maxine at 8:45 (to greet the Culligan man [to disconnect the filtration system] and the City inspector for the rebate program). The condo manager, Marcy, balked at installing a new line that would be visible... I could see that this was going to take longer than we had, so I headed over to Maxine and Lisa stayed to talk this matter through with Marcy.

At Maxine, I took pics of the house: "BEFORE"s of both the interior and exterior:

Here's what our house looks like from the outside:

We love this porch... hope we can save it...

Going through the front door, you have a short entry hall...

that looks into the living room...

and that leads out of the kitchen...

The kitchen is a galley... more like a hallway...

We redecorated about three and a half years ago, and here are our handprints...

The dining room looks south into the kitchen...

And the dining room grows out of the living room...

The living room...

[can't wait to get rid of this heater]

The living room cuts into a north-south hall...

Through which you find the guest bath...

Go north in the hall, and you go into the master bedroom...

The walk-in closet (and my office for a couple of years)...

The master bedroom has its own bath...

Out the door, you can see south down the hall, the office and the boys' room...

The office...

And, finally, the boys' room (which I painted in a flag motif)...

And the boys' room opens into the garage (we'll lose that functionality due to City rules...)

As I was doing this, the Culligan guy arrived and did his thing. Within minutes, our friend from the City came by to inspect the exterior for the roofing / stucco / window rebates.

Then Lisa arrived with coffees for herself and Joni and an iced green tea smoothie for me.

And bad news...

Marcy had wanted TimeWorthless to pull new cable through the existing route. Luis the installation supervisior (whom Lisa and Marcy had phoned) said that's impossible. An impasse. So Marcy and Luis will meet tomorrow to inspect the site and come up with a solution. If the solution involves no exterior wiring, I could be up and running by late tomorrow. If not, then the wiring solution must be approved by the Condo "Architecture Board"... and that could take a week or more.

Great.

And to make it so the phone can be used to open the gate for visitors (a gate, by the way, that--thankfully--has NOT been working for the last three weeks), write another $25 check.

And so we grouse over this and wait...

At 9:40, we called Dana at Coastline and asked where Jose was. She said he had to make a trip to the Malibu site, and would be here "within the hour."

So lisa called the City to get the dumpster emptied, and Verizon to hold our old (15-year) telephone number (this had been a huge problem last week, but now seemed to be very simple...), I took a package to the post office and put a hold on our mail. The hold will only last a month, and we'll have to re-apply every month, but it's better than forwarding the mail.

It's now eleven and Jose just showed up... two hours late.

---------------------------------

Now it's noon, and I'm finishing this up on the computer. The walkthrough went fine with Jose... bi-polar opposite from Shy on Friday. He'll have the "moveable" saves done this afternoon (blinds, carpet, counter, sink, faucet, dishwasher)... with the other items (doors and windows) waiting for demo. He thinks the couch should be no problem as well.

Now my faith in Coastline is restored. Now if I could just some faith in the Condo people and TimeWorthless... guess I'll have to wait for that.
