Waiting to Pay

Lisa left for San Francisco today to speak at a teachers' conference. Before she took off, we went to the old house to meet with Fred from Coastline, and give him the second check (the first of the really big checks): $56,250. We were supposed to meet him between 8 and 8:30; Lisa was supposed to meet a drive partner at 8:45 across town.

We looked through the house. Jose had done a pretty incredible job gutting it, even saving the couch--that, hopefully, Jason and I will be moving to Grandma B's storage space tonight. Joni and Jason took most of the salvaged fixtures (lights, sink, dishwasher, etc.); we squirrelled away the blinds (except for the huge one that spanned three windows... there was nothing we could do about that). By the time we were through looking, it was 8:15 and still no Fred. At 8:30, Lisa left. At 8:45, I called Coastline, getting someone other than Dana... he said he would check.

Check. For a 56K check, wouldn't YOU be on time?

At 9, some workers (external guys led by Frank) showed up, but still no Fred. At 9:05, Dana called. I recounted what I had been told. She asked if the workers were there, and I told they had just arrived. Fred would get there in an hour or so. I told her I couldn't wait around, so to call me at the new number when he was ready. And back to the beach and the boys I go, not a little pissed off. The honeymoon is over pretty quick with Coastline, I fear.

They played PS2 while I went to work, coding. The cable supervisor was supposed to meet with the Condo Association Manager Marcy today... but at 10, two cable guys showed up... and after a half hour of finding nothing that hadn't been found (or not found) on Friday, suddenly announced they had a solution within the wall... Luis the cable guy just showed up and is now heading over to talk to Marcy.

In the meantime, Dana called and said that Fred would be at the worksite around 11:30. Whatever. She also said that the fire sprinkler guy still needs to know fire flow numbers... needs me to get a Form 126A. I explain to Dana AGAIN that that's already taken care of... she has the sprinkler guy call me... and we go over it ONE MORE TIME. He's going to call Fire, and I gave hime all the case numbers he needed... he's going to call me back.

The cable guys are hard at work in the next room, setting up the TV, after which they'll come in here to work on the internet portion. Hopefully, they'll be done in an hour, I'll have already talked to a satisfied fire sprinkler guy, and I can take the check to Fred and the boys out to lunch.

We'll see...

UPDATE (11:45): the cable guys are done... we have connectivity and TV (though no DVR... that'll come tomorrow as I wait for the gas to be connected). No call back from the Coastline fire sprinkler guy. Got a call back from Kyle's pediatrician... while I was taking out the trash...so he's supposed to call right back. I'll wait another 10 minutes, then head out the door for check and lunch.
