News from Fred

Fred just called... I really like this guy. He wanted to set up a meeting with Lisa and me... he doesn't want more than a week or two to go by without some face-time.

He asked if I had been by the site. I told him about our viewing last night (and how it had been a high point in a week of sewage lows)... and how we are blown away by the progress.

He said that today is a down day, as they wait for two inspections: one for the forms for the footings, the other for the epoxy adherents between the old foundation and the new-to-be-poured foundations. He asked if when I went by, if I had taken a tape measure.

No....

He then said that the foundations and footings are a foot deeper and four inches wider than the plans call for. He said in the land of earthquakes, a little overkill isn't bad. I had noticed that the trenches were pretty deep, but I figured that was just par for the course, but it even better.

Nice.

Concrete should start pouring Monday afternoon.

He raised the subject of fencing again. He said a fence will go in next week; he's concerned about all the kids running around the neighborhood (as he said, "If you think that the last couple of weeks looked wild at the house, wait for a month, and the temptation will be for the kids to turn it into a playground"). He'll tell us where the key will be hidden, so we can go in on the weekends.

He also said that his fire sprinkler guy had finally worked things out with the county Fire folks. It seems that with the new square footage, the standard Port Hueneme water valve is NOT going to be enough. So add another valve.

Chaching. Add $1100. He's already paid it and has the receipt and he'll bill us later. (great)

On that count, since concrete should happen early next week, I ask when he needs the next check. He said not yet... he's still working off the first 56K. He said he knew the next check (for 60K) is due before laying the foundations, but if he doesn't need it yet, he's going to wait to call for it ("Ask Ray and Willie," he said. "They'll tell you I don't take the cash before I need it"). But it'll probably be sometime next week.

At first, he said that he wanted to meet Sunday, but he backed off on that at the end of the call--Sunday is his 36th birthday, and he's pretty sure his wife is going to "surprise" him--so we've pencilled in a meeting at the Maxine worksite Monday at 3pm, to discuss the progress and the future. (and with any luck, we'll see the concrete being poured)

(and I'll bring the checkbook, just in case)
