Walls and Reworking

Arrived at the house after 6pm (we had dinner with the Coreys): the crew was still hard at work.

Looks like outer walls are going up:

And where there had been stucco (the master bedroom), there is now open framing...

The high window in the master bedroom now has its bottom casement

But second bedroom's window is still the old one, still in its framing:

What was most interesting, however, was their work on the stairwell. I watched them remove yesterday's stairwell framing (which had been cut down from Saturday's west-east wall framing), and replace with this new one. The new one took from the kitchen the 4x4 beam/stud....

Here's the kitchen, viewed from the nook (looking north)... you can see the subfloor in the kitchen opened up again.

Detailed view of the open subfloor... why did they take the 4x4 from here? Did they need to cannibalize the kitchen for the short-term work on the stairwell, knowing a replacement 4x4 is coming for the kitchen? I have no idea.

All of this is confusing, but my faith (and money) is on Fred and his guys. Fred called us today while we were picking up Kyle from water polo camp, and we missed his call...and he didn't leave a voice-mail. We returned the call, but got only his voice-mail. We left a message, but never got the return call. Wonder if Friday's subfloor changes, or the massive progress made over the weekend, or today's reworking of yesterday's stairwell work was the subject of his call. Hopefully, we'll find out tomorrow (of course, we'll be in court, so who knows when we'll be able to talk to him).

Sometime after 7pm, a truck arrived with this:

This lift will help the workers raise the big beams that will be the basis for the second story. According to the guys, it could be pressed into use as early as tomorrow.

That's hard to believe (all this progress being made), but then again not too surprising... given they didn't stop working until well after 8pm tonight.
